Design Indaba - conversations or cycling

The Design Indaba is over but the buzz is not, as the Twitter page carries on the love of cycling, started by the force behind the urban mobility movement in Denmark, Jens Martin Skibsted and the print magazine comes out.

Conversations

The 10th anniversary issue of the Design Indaba magazine, entitled Conversations, offers readers an opportunity to listen to nine conversations with 19 designers on everything from lobola to the debate over art versus design. Heath Nash asks, "What is your opinion on the differences between art and design?" Massimo Vignelli replies, "Design is utilitarian; art is useful and non-utilitarian," but Milton Glaser adds, "Every once in a while though, somebody who thought they were doing design, does enter into the realm of art." The magazine is available at selected Exclusive Books, Woolworths, other stockists and online.

Win a New York style bike

South Africans have an opportunity to own a Biomega bike, before its release in 2012, by suggesting ways to encourage a bicycle culture in South African cities by tweeting before 21 March 2011 with the #designindaba in the tweet. The winning idea will be announced on 25 March 2011 on the Twitter page and on www.designindaba.com.
