Simphiwe Dana to headline the Cape Town Nu World Festival

Simphiwe Dana has been named as a headline act at the recently renamed The Cape Town World Music Festival, which is now the Cape Town Nu World Festival and will be held at the Cape Town City Hall on 17 and 18 July, 2015.

Dana is a much-loved Xhosa singer whose music is a soulful combination of jazz, Afro-pop and traditional music and has been hailed as the "new Miriam Makeba". She has also been appointed the first ever global African ambassador for Amnesty International as she celebrates her decade in the industry.

Other acts will include: Spoek Mathambo presents: Fantasma, Toby2shoes, Aero Manyelo and Tcheka (Cape Verde) in collaboration with Derek Gripper. Additional artists and exclusive collaborations will be announced in the forthcoming weeks.

Wild and Wise will be the theme for this year's festival. This interesting juxtaposition of old and new, of the knowing and naïve, will bring some exciting collaborations, pairing local music legends with fresh, up-and-coming artists. The Cape Town Nu World Festival 2015 is set to offer event-goers a unique, culturally diverse, socially inclusive and proudly African musical experience.

Three different stages

The event will run over two evenings on 17 and 18 July. Three different stages will cater to the diverse audience: a seated stage for more intimate performances, a main arena for larger acts, and a late-night DJ stage playing beats from all over Africa and the world. The festival will also host a number of TED-style talks and a yet-to-be-revealed programme of workshops and fringe events set to take place all over the city.
