Claimants who transitioned to this mixed development of flats and terraced houses in May have had to grapple with several hurdles, as highlighted by Jeff Alexander, chairman of the District Six Phase Three Steering Committee.
Of particular concern is the loss of thousands of litres of water daily due to a series of pipe bursts that have occurred in recent months, with the water running down stairwells making the stairs unsafe to use.
The Department of Agriculture, Land reform and Rural Development (Dalrard) has notified the municipality about the problem of excessive water pressure which is the primary cause of the burst pipes, while a service provider has been engaged to address and repair the burst pipes.
The repairs are going through the Dalrard’s supply-chain process because the homes are yet to be transferred to the individual beneficiaries.
Once the transfer has taken place, the property owners will open accounts with the municipality, and the City of Cape Town will address issues of sewerage.
