Zambia: Give us radio licence, chief urges govt

Chief Simamba of the Tonga speaking people of Siavonga District in Southern Province has called on President Michael Sata's government to consider granting a full radio operation licence to Kariba FM Radio Trust.

The traditional leader urged the government to urgently consider an application by the radio station to start full operations. He said allowing the radio station to commence operations would help create employment for the youth in the district.

Chief Simamba said this in Siavonga on Friday [14 October 2011] when Kariba FM managing director Herbert Macha paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.

He said opening the radio station would create jobs for the youth and also allow business enterprises in the district to advertise their products and services.

Chief Simamba said he was delighted to have a radio station in the district, adding that it would allow people to air their problems to the new government, especially those pertaining to development projects.

Kariba FM Radio is currently on test transmission on 89.1 MHZ and the station's call sign is 'Choice of the people'.
