Intersexions returns to SABC1 on Friday

The 2010 TV programme 'Intersexions' returns to SABC1 on Friday, 22 July 2011, at 9pm. Described as an innovative series of 25 episodes that examine issues relating to love, sex and relationships and its consequences, it was, on its first showing, South Africa's second-favourite show across all genres.

It is co-produced by Curious Pictures and Ants Multimedia, in partnership with Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa (JHHESA) and SABC Education, with funding from USAID and PEPFAR. "We're delighted that the SABC has decided to rebroadcast Intersexions in its entirety," says JHHESA country programme director Richard Delate.

"Intersexions also created a stir online and in social media, with thousands of people tweeting and Facebooking every week about the show, even while episodes were on air. It was most gratifying to see how they also understood and internalised the series' underlying messaging about responsible lifestyles, and spontaneously propagated these messages to each other," he adds.

    Show's message

The show's message is that as soon as we become sexually active, we are immediately locked into a human web in which we are sleeping with hundreds, even thousands, of complete strangers and how our lives intersect and criss-cross with others.

"Intersexions portrays people of all walks of life, caught up in vivid scenarios that accurately reflect life in South Africa. The fictional world resonates deeply with the real world in which we all must live," says executive producer Harriet Gavshon, of Curious Pictures.

"This, I believe, played a significant part in the series' success and a whole new audience, as well as those viewers who would like to catch a missed episode, or even watch the whole series again, are sure to find themselves swept along by the compelling human drama."
