Anele to drive Highveld afternoons, Grant retiring from radio

Hot on the heels of 5FM announcing it is parting ways with Sasha Martinengo came the news on Twitter last night, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 that 5FM's Grant Nash and Anele Mdoda are also splitting up, with Mdoda going back to 94.7 Highveld Stereo to take over the flagship Afternoon Drive Time show from Mark Pilgrim, and Nash - an "avid Buddhist and vegan" - to retire from radio to "further himself spiritually".

Popularly known as Grant and Anele, the two have been a radio duo since their university radio days at TuksFM , and started out in commercial radio on Highveld as RAW Recruits, there from 2006 until 2008. The two will reveal more regarding their plans on The Grant & Anele Show today, Thursday, 23 February 2012, between 12 noon and 3pm.

    "Dream came true"

Comments Nash (@grantnash), "It was always a dream of mine to work for 5FM. That dream came true. I'm eternally grateful for all that made this a reality. I can only hope my spiritual journey will be filled with as many helping hands and loving hearts."

Mdoda (@anele) will be taking over the 4pm-7pm weekday slot from Pilgrim (@MarkPilgrimZA), who will continue to do the Kia Take 40 Countdown programme on Saturday mornings, 10am- 2pm. Afternoon Drive traffic reporter Bailey Schneider (@BaileySchneider) will also be leaving the show. "We want to thank them both for their contribution to the station," says Highveld programme manager Ravi Naidoo.

Comments Mdoda, "5FM is only for the fearless. I am glad they even let me through the door. I've learnt so much and become so much more because of the brand. Thank you for that. I have grown as a broadcaster since first starting at 94.7 Highveld Stereo six years ago.

    "Biggest radio challenge to date"

"I am keen to apply all my learnings, with confidence and fearlessness, as I take on my biggest radio challenge to date. I am most definitely looking forward to all 94.7 Highveld Stereo has to offer."

Both a radio and TV personality, Mdoda is described as an A-List celebrity after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing and hosting the popular 'SA's Got Talent' show.

All the changes take place from April.

Says 5FM station manager Aisha Mohamed, "5FM has enjoyed an amazing four years with Grant and Anele. Their dedication and commitment to the station has been commendable. 5FM's lineup changes will come into effect on 1 April 2012. We're excited about the new lineup and will be announcing what listeners can expect on 1 March 2012 live on 5FM."

Primedia CEO Terry Volkwyn says: "Stand by for a burst of energy from Anele that is going to transform the show and keep listeners hooked. We welcome her back to where she belongs. Anele has a razor sharp wit and is an exuberant personality who really interacts with her audience. Everyone at 94.7 is delighted to have Anele back."
