    loveLife filmmakers gather in Johannesburg

loveLife, in partnership with Born Free Media and SABC, embarked on a filmmakers competition earlier this year and has now selected 42 finalists, who will be attending a training session at Big Fish the school of digital film in Milpark, Johannesburg, 27 September - 7 October 2010.

At the training sessions, the candidates will form groups and work together on the different films. Angela Stewart-Buchanan of Born Free Media said they have earmarked the films they favoured from the treatments sent through by the candidates. "At the training a final selection will be made after films are developed further. The actual production will take place from October to December with films being ready early 2011," said Stewart-Buchanan. The SABC will flight the short documentary films (24 minutes each) from 16 June 2011 on SABC 1 to celebrate youth month.

Scott Burnett of loveLife said, "loveLife cares about the voices of young people and that is exactly what these films will allow us as a nation to hear. Too often their voices are mediated by an adult agenda.

Burnett added that from an HIV-prevention perspective, the reasons that young people in South Africa tolerate such high levels of risk in their personal lives are complex. Fundamental to addressing risk tolerance, however, is building social cohesion, which this competition is doing.
