Euronews reporter Chiara Reid talked with the President of India in an exclusive interview, from the presidential palace in New Delhi, before his trip to Europe. A member of the Indian National Congress (centre-left) party, led by Sonia Gandhi, he was elected President in July 2012.
Chiara Reid asked him to speak on topics including:
• The condition of women in India, in light of the violent attacks that have made world headlines
• As former Minister of Finance, his views on India's growing economic crisis,
• Relations between India and Europe and, as one of the founders of the WTO, his proposed solution for a free-trade agreement between Europe and India, first discussed in 2007 but which has stalled.
Chiara Reid asked the Indian President a question submitted by an Indian web viewer via #AskIndianPresident on Twitter: "Has politics in India changed over the years?"

Chiara Reid is a journalist-reporter of Italian origin with more than 20 years' experience in television.
In 2010, she was the producer of a magazine on education and training for the Euronews programme 'Learning World'. She is now in charge of special projects and regularly develops new programme formats for Euronews.
She joined Euronews in 2000 as a bilingual journalist on the Italian editorial team, before heading to APTN, Reuters, and BBC as a video journalist, from 2004 to 2009.
In addition, Chiara is an expert on India, where she has travelled many times for work and for pleasure. She also speaks the most common language in India, Hindi.
