Markex Cape now a permanent brand

Now in its fourth year in the Western Cape, Markex/World of Events has proven itself by establishing its credentials as a permanent brand on the Cape's exhibitions calendar.

Visitors will arrive from across the industry, including marketing, advertising, public relations, sales promotions, communications management, exhibitions, conference and event organisers, procurement management, technical support companies - to mention a few - to source new ideas for their own strategies, or for further recommendation to their clients.

Says Fran Lurie, Sales Executive for organiser Exhibitions for Africa and Project Director for Markex/World of Events Cape: “We have made much progress since our first show in 2004, and year-on-year exhibitor and visitor numbers grew by 20%. When the show was last held in 2006 3700 people visited the 130 exhibitors. This year we will sustain the momentum and I am sure that, even against a tight economy, good business will be conducted. The character of the show is a strong bias towards marketing, and when times are tough marketers become assertive in their strategies and an accelerated marketing spend is normally visible.”

Kevin Kennedy, Cape Town Chief Operations Officer for Oasys Innovations who supplied the infrastructure for the exhibition says: “Due to the commercial nature of the exhibition, we enjoy the fact that the exhibitors want to go the proverbial extra mile in presenting themselves to visitors who have high expectations of the latest trends in marketing collateral. The exhibition, which had little impact on our upgraded inventory of carpets, exhibition systems, panels, fascias and electrical connections which formed part of our scope of delivery, is also a showcase for our own competence. Our own exhibition booth under the Oasys brand demonstrates that we have total confidence in the regional market to take decisions about marketing support material, without always having to refer the matter to the proverbial head office in Joburg. We will showcase our corporate position, as well as demonstrate our five activation companies - exhibitions, events, audio visual, hiring and electrical.”

Lurie and Kennedy share the podium in terms of the future: “Cape Town has walked through the front door of marketing independence and exhibitions, being part of the communications mix will continue to feature as a point of entry for entrepreneurs in commerce and industry.”
