Interested participants can submit their entries online via the Awards website before the submission deadline, 31 January 2018.

Dr Femi Oyetunji, group managing director, Continental Reinsurance, commented, “These awards are designed to celebrate insurance and journalism across the continent, and to encourage writers, journalists, and commentators both online and via traditional media to develop and improve the quality of their reporting on the African insurance industry.

“The judges have seen the quality of entries improve each year so we’re all very much looking forward to reading the submissions this time around.”

The three categories in the 2018 awards are:

    1. Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalist of the Year.
    2. Best Re/Insurance Industry Analysis and Commentary.
    3. Best Re/Insurance Industry Feature Article.

Previous years saw submissions from journalists across Africa, with 21 journalists shortlisted in 2017 after the first round, and seven finalists selected in the second round. The judges identified the three winners of last year’s edition during a final round table discussion.

Continental Reinsurance initiated the awards in 2015 to recognise and acknowledge the good work of media on the continent. Journalists were required to demonstrate how their articles raised awareness and understanding of the re/insurance sector in Africa.

Continental Reinsurance is a composite reinsurer, writing business in more than 50 countries across the African continent. Established in 1985, and listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in 2007, Continental Reinsurance provides support to over 200 insurance companies in Africa with its main offices in Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Côte d'Ivoire, Tunisia and Botswana.  It also has a specialist subsidiary – Continental Property and Engineering Risk Services (CPERS) – registered in South Africa.
