The new store replaces Gucci’s existing V&A Waterfront space, where the Italian luxury brand has operated since 2008. The move extends an almost two-decade presence at the Cape Town landmark while introducing a contemporary interpretation of the house's retail design.
Located in the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, the new store brings together Gucci’s women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections alongside handbags, shoes, small leather goods, jewellery, watches, eyewear, silk accessories and fragrances.

The opening comes as luxury retail increasingly places emphasis on physical stores as brand environments, with international houses using their locations not only as points of sale but also as spaces designed to immerse customers in their brand identity.
The Cape Town store has been designed as a series of interconnected spaces, combining open areas with more intimate environments to create a progression through the store.
Gucci's contemporary design language is reflected through a combination of architectural elements, custom displays and curated furnishings, with the environment intended to have more of a residential character than a conventional retail layout.

The interiors bring together stone, teak and walnut, alongside brushed stainless steel, bronze and mirrored surfaces. Leather and fabrics add softer elements to the space, while integrated lighting is used to highlight materials and merchandise.
A stone façade gives the store a distinctive presence within the shopping centre, while the interior uses contrasting textures and natural materials to create different visual zones.
Gucci's decision to establish its latest store at the V&A Waterfront builds on a presence dating back to 2008, positioning the new space as a continuation of its investment in the Cape Town market rather than a new market entry.

The V&A Waterfront remains a significant destination for both local consumers and international visitors, providing luxury brands with access to a combination of high-income shoppers, tourists and the broader retail and hospitality ecosystem surrounding the precinct.
For global luxury houses, these destination environments have become increasingly important as consumers seek experiences alongside products.

The new Gucci store therefore extends the brand's physical footprint while aligning its Cape Town presence with the latest evolution of its global retail identity.
The Gucci Cape Town V&A store is open from 9am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday, at Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, Units 6259A and 6262B.
