VML Birdwatching at the Loeries | New Loeries chair Carl Willoughby on the yin and yang of the industry
Carl Willoughby, chief creative officer at TBWA, named the Loeries Chairman at last week's Loeries Creative Week, gives his take on the state of the South African creative industry.
12 Oct 2026
This year Willoughby judged the inaugural Young Directors Award; he says the industry is in good hands. But his sense of the state of the industry has been that it has been a tough year - "Cutbacks are real", but he says it seems that the more obstacles the better the work. "I think there is hope."
Listen to what he says further about the industry and its work not only in South Africa, but in Africa and the Middle East, and the shifts in the industry's narrative.
